Fire Safety 10/21/2009
We have been learning all about fire safety in Kindergarten! Today, Chief Chris from the Leoni Township Fire Department visited our classroom. He told us how to be safe in a fire and many other things about fire safety. We loved it when he put on all his equipment. He showed us how he would search a room to make sure no one was trapped inside if a house was on fire. We all got to sit up in the fire truck and he even turned on the siren and lights! We have also made some fun art projects about fire safety. Today in our centers we worked on painting firemen. Our Apple Graph 10/12/2009
Students were asked to bring in apples last week. We created this apple graph to discuss the different colors of apples. We discovered that most of the apples brought in were mixed colors. We had the least of red apples. We also compared sizes of our apples. Some of our apples were used to make applesauce and for some of the activities on Apple Day. The rest we enjoyed for our snacks this week! Apple Day 10/12/2009
Last Thursday, we celebrated Apple Day in Kindergarten. Our students had so much fun learning about apples. During our celebration, students rotated through 8 different stations where they measured, estimated, weighed, sorted and printed apples. Students got to string necklaces with Apple Jacks and even did an apple food taste test. We made homemade applesauce, and it smelled so delicious in our classroom! Below are some pictures from our day. Red Day 09/22/2009
Today was red day. We celebrated by wearing red and bring red things to school. We added the word red to our word wall, learned how to spell and write the word red. We drew pictures with red crayons and markers and we learned the RED song. During our choice time we built towers with the red blocks, we stamped with red ink, we counted red lady bugs and sorted red bears. Mrs Durocher read us a story of Clifford, the Big Red Dog. And today was Kasandra's birthday...she brought us yummy cupcakes with red frosting and cherry juice. We had some pretty messy...but happy faces! Bucket Filler Assembly 09/22/2009
Recently we had the Bucket Filling Team visit our school to present the concept of filling buckets to our students. We have been working hard at being bucket fillers and not bucket dippers. Every week I choose bucket fillers from our class and Mrs. Murphy presents them with a certificate. I will also be highlighting 2 in our weekly class newsletter. Our First Day 09/08/2009
What a great first day we had in room 2! It was so great to finally all be together. We made new friends and learned new things about how share, how to work together and how to follow rules. We spent a lot of time working on routines, which will continue throughout the next two weeks. Today I read a story called The Kissing Hand. Ask your child to tell you the story about Chester. It was a great surprise when Miss Cyndi (Mrs. Durocher's sister) arrived with a special kissing hand treat for every student in the class! And just in time, because we had a lot of growling tummies. Later, Mrs. Murphy visited us and read us the Bucket Filler book. We talked about ways to fill our classmates and teacher's buckets with nice words and helpful actions. Later this month, our school will attend an assembly based on this great book. We also practiced writing our names and drew a picture of ourselves on the first day of school. We sang the ABC song and did our calendar activities together. We have a wonderful group of kids that are eager to learn all kinds of things. I think it's going to be a great year! A NEW Year...a New Class! 09/01/2009
I am so looking forward to meeting all of you tomorrow at Kindergarten Visitation. I am looking forward to a great year with your child. This website is created for you:
Little Peeps 04/20/2009
Today we had some special visitors. They arrived in a little brown box...we heard sounds coming from the box. Someone thought there might be mice inside, but there were baby chicks! They were barely one week old. The kids loved holding them...they were so cute. Our Farm Unit 04/14/2009
Over the past week, we have been learning all about farm animals with our farm unit. We have been reading Mrs. Wishy-washy and our students have been loving performing a reader's theater of the story. We have been sorting and counting farm animals, we have added pigs in mud puddles, we have done puppet shows with our farm animal puppets and wrote about farm animals in our journals. Here are some pictures of our recent centers Destiny, Jeremiah and Dylan work together on a big puzzle of a farm. Dylan enjoys reading along with a CD of Old McDonald Had a Farm in our listening center. Eddie, Jordan, Hannah and Cheyenne are having fun playing with the farm. |
